If you’re cooking at home without homemade ingredients, you’re likely not actually saving yourself that much money. Frugal living starts in the kitchen with homemade ingredients added into your recipes.
Some of my favorite homemade recipes are the actual homemade ingredients I use in other recipes. For example, my son struggles with dairy, so he drinks oat milk. I was spending $4 a week on oat milk cartons, but now we’re making it at home for pennies. Also, my kids love protein bars and crackers for snacks, but they’re expensive, not to mention filled with junkie ingredients like low-quality flour and cheap vanilla.
Learn to make your own homemade ingredients like oat milk, granola, broth, vanilla, applesauce and more with some ideas below.

Stop spending money on foods and ingredients that can easily be prepared in your own home. Start small making switches one by one, then expand.
Cooking from scratch in your home means just as much making the ingredients as it does making the meal. Don’t be hard on yourself if you’re not using ONLY homemade ingredients. I sure don’t. But it’s a goal to strive for and maybe someday, you’ll end up making more from scratch than you ever thought possible!
