Why You’ll Love This Applesauce:

  • No preservatives or added sugar
  • Just 3 simple ingredients
  • Vegan, gluten-free & naturally dairy-free
  • Great for kids, toddlers, and adults

{Ingredients}

5 lbs of apples (roughly twenty apples)

1/2 – 1 cup of water

{Instructions}

Start by peeling off the apple skins. I do this with a carrot peeler, but you can also use a fancy apple corer or just a simple knife. Once all apple skins are peeled off, dice up apples (removing the center and seeds) into small bite-size pieces. The smaller the pieces the faster the apples will cook.

Add diced apples to a large pot, then place on stove over medium heat, adding a half cup of water to the pot. Allow apples to start cooking, stirring every couple minutes. If heat starts cooking the apples too fast, be sure to turn down to medium-low heat. Also, add more water by the tablespoons if apples are starting to look dry. You’re looking for a slow softening of the apple pieces with traces of liquid in the bottom of the pot.

Cooking time typically takes 20 – 30 minutes. Once apples start to shrink and look translucent, remove from heat and dump into a blender. Blend for roughly one minute, or until applesauce is smooth. If you prefer chunky applesauce, blend for less time.

Add a dash of cinnamon to your homemade applesauce for extra flavor if desired.

Store in the fridge for up to a week, or in the freeze in glass jars for up to six months.
