Most people have used a delivery service like Door Dash or Uber Eats before, but have you ever thought of making a delivery service your next side hustle? This is a great side hustle because you can start making money right away! If you are really in need for money this would be a great side hustle to start with. What about the mileage and wear and tear on your car? You definitely need to factor that in, but it shouldn’t scare you away completely. I’ll share some tips later on this page that will help alleviate some of the mileage and wear and tear too.
Where Do I Start?
Step 1: Apply
It is smart to apply for more than one because you may end up on a waitlist. I recommend applying for at least Door Dash and Uber Eats. You can also apply for Walmart Spark and Instacart. Once you are accepted you can start earning. I personally have never used Walmart Spark (as I’m on the waitlist), but I have heard great things about it.
Step 2: Start Earning
If you are accepted into more than one app that is great! For the first week or two I would use one app at a time until you get the hang of it. After you feel more comfortable you can start having more than one app open at a time. I use Door Dash and Uber Eats at the same time and have had a lot of success with that.
Tips For Success
I have learned a lot from my experiences with these delivery services. With all that I have learned, I would love to share a few tips to help you have the most success right away.
Tip 1: Do not accept every order
When I started I was accepting every single order because “I had to.” This meant I was driving far and getting paid little. I finally realized you don’t need to accept every order. I now refuse to accept any order that isn’t at least $1 per mile. Since changing how I accept orders I make way more and drive way less.
Tip 2: Track your miles
Maybe this is an obvious tip, but it can be easy to forget to do it. Track every mile you drive because you can write that off on your taxes. There are apps that can track it or you can manually do it yourself.
Tip 3: Pack snacks/meals to bring with you
The whole goal with a side hustle is to make extra money, so please don’t throw it all away by buying food when delivering it. It is kind of like shopping while being hungry. You think you will be strong, but then you smell all the tasty food in your car and you break. Seriously, just pack a meal!
Tip 4: Have fun with it
I am competitive so it was easy for me to make delivering a game. I wanted to see how much I could make in X amount of time. Even if you aren’t competitive you can have fun because you will see and experience a lot. I swear I have a handful of funny stories every time I come back from delivering. Enjoy it and have fun!
