Name something that has become far more complicated than it needs to be: finding coupons.
Back in the day of EXTREME couponing, my mom would clip the deals, shop the drug store sales, then bring her loot home and make us guess how much she paid. It was impressive to me even at the age of twelve. I’m still impressed today!
People talk about finding coupons like it’s a thing of the past, but I disagree! Maybe the grocery store discontinued double coupon day, and maybe the newspaper coupons are measly, BUT I have a new system of finding coupons and it’s completely foolproof.
Most people aren’t willing to put in the time to score a few freebies or spend less money. They’re simply too lazy. But if time is money, consider how spending time finding coupons will multiply your money in the future.
What does finding coupons look like today?
Yes, there are still coupon inserts in newspapers. Today, there are also various apps that offer printable coupons to bring along to the store with you. Some grocery stores like Woodman’s offer clipped coupons along the aisles as you’re walking through the store. Plus, store apps like Target, Kroger, or CVS, make finding coupons right on the app easy as ever.
But Somer, this all sounds like a lot of work.
Agreed. Forget all those methods above. It’s time to focus on the most effective way for finding the exact coupons I want – EMAILING COMPANIES. Here’s a little taste of the kind of coupons I’m receiving on a monthly basis.
This all started four years ago when we were trying new snacks for my one-year-old daughter. Sure, I enjoy making most of my snacks homemade – I even share a handful of tasty snack recipes right here on my website! But it was fun to splurge on new snacks at the store from time to time.
We had purchased a few bags of the Lesser Evil Puffs from Walmart and I saw an email address on the back of a bag with the comment “Tell Us What You Thought!” We loved them, so I decided to email a couple of sentences thanking them for their products. I received a reply a few days later thanking me for my business and requesting my address so they could send me some product coupons.
This is before I ever started up any social media accounts. No one knew who I was and I certainly wasn’t getting any “sponsorship” freebies or brand deals. Nonetheless, this delicious snack company wanted to send me vouchers for free snacks! I couldn’t believe it. Later that week, I searched our fridge for what other products we were loving – Perfect bars, Siete chips, Banza pasta. I wrote a handful of companies we consistently purchased from in hopes of finding coupons again. Most companies were sending similar responsive emails thanking me for my business and offering coupons.
That month, we saved at least $100 on our grocery bill and stocked up our pantry for weeks! I started to realize how many different brands and products we use on a weekly basis. Finding coupons just became so much easier by requesting right from the source – the actual company.
Yes, I eventually ran our of companies to email, but that was the best part. I even discovered a few companies that suggested I email back in the future so they could send coupons to my address every single month.
Who could have imagined finding coupons could be so easy!
SIX STEPS TO FINDING COUPONS
STEP 1: Make a list of products/brands you love.
STEP 2: Create a goal. How about starting with emailing three companies a week?
STEP 3: Find company emails by heading to the specific company website and clicking “contact us.”
- Contact info is typically at the top or bottom of the home page. The website could provide you with an email to message directly through your own email, or you may be prompted to fill out some questions/comments to submit through the website. Either works well for coupon requests!
STEP 4: LOOSELY follow this prompt for sending your emails.
STEP 5: If the company emails back, respond politely and be sure to send any information they may be requesting for you to receive coupons or freebies.
STEP 6: Receive coupons in the mail and repeat!
There is truly nothing better than seeing a reward for all your hard work.
